I thought a topic should be added for those who wish to obtain Italian Dual Citizenship. As a person who is going through the process right now, and using the Consulate in Chicago, I would like any information I can get about Italy before moving there. I also thought this website may appreciate a link to the most reasonable and best Italian organization for obtaining Italian records in Italy and are actually based in Italy.

I agree that this is a good topic, as I also am going through the process. I looked at the website that Cristina posted, and realized that I had used them before. They are very good and worthwhile linking to if you don't have another one picked out. They are more reasonable than the others.
If anyone has any suggestions about the process, I am new to it, but willing to help others with questions on the topic

Thank you both for your insight into this subject. I believe a topic and discussion on obtaining Italian Citizenship/Dual Citizenship will be useful to many people. Lots of people don't know where to start and some people have experienced headaches in the process. So sharing personal experiences on this topic will be appreciated by all.
The website you suggest Cristina, http://www.icdts.com looks very good and your recommendation is appreciated.
Also, I'm sure both Cristina and Gabino are past this stage in the process, but for others looking into obtaining Dual Citizenship or just thinking about it...some good info is here by the NIAF: http://www.niaf.org/citizenship/index.asp

Hi, Thank you for considering it!. The reason I shared it, is because I am aware of the high costs involved in this and thought people may like to know another source for obtaining records from Italy at a lower cost than what I paid!. Too late for me, but not for newcomers!

I am glad for you Gabino and Cristina who can obtain the Italian Citizenship, I've been trying for years, but fall into the trouble of the 1948 law and cannot do it.

Hi, what about the **3 year rule?***. If you have an ancestor to as far back as grandfather, born in Italy, you can qualify for Italian Citizenship.

Thanks, I know, you can do that with any Italian ancestor, but first you need to live in Italy legally for those three years!

Sorry for not responding sooner. I don't agree with this 3 year living in Italy rule. Why not 1 year? or 2?. Why make it so hard for someone who really wants to live there.
