FOUND A LEONARDO DA VINCI PORTRAIT IN LUCANIA (BASILICATA)

I've been involved with a small group of researchers for some years in Italy where many wonderful discoveries having been popping up, but this is our biggest yet; please read the article below:

What may be a hitherto unknown portrait of Leonardo da Vinci in middle age shows that the Renaissance genius had piercing blue eyes, a long nose and long greying hair with a droopy moustache.

The damaged oil-on-panel portrait was discovered by Nicola Barbatelli, a medieval historian, while he was researching the archive and picture collection of an aristocratic family at Acerenza (population 3,000), an ancient village perched on a rock above the river Bradano near Potenza in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. The family has asked to remain anonymous.

At one time thought to portray Galileo Galilei, the great astronomer, it shows a man in three-quarter profile wearing a hat with a feather in it. Mr Barbatelli, who found the painting by chance while researching the history of the Templar Knights and the First Crusade, told The Times that although Leonardo came from Vinci in Tuscany and worked in Florence and Milan, he was known to have visited Basilicata.

Mr Barbatelli said that the 60cm-by-44cm (24in-by-17in) painting could even be a self-portrait, since it bore on the back the words Pinxit Mea written in reverse, which was one of Leonardos trademarks. We know that Leonardo had ties to a Florentine family, the Segnis, who had property in Acerenza in the Sixteenth Century, he said.

Alessandro Vezzosi, director of the Museo Ideale Leonardo da Vinci at Vinci, where the artist was born in 1452, said initial examination of the painting showed it was a Renaissance era original and not a later copy. He said he was investigating whether the painting was by Cristofano dellAltissimo, who painted the da Vinci portrait in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

It was found in December 2008 but has only just started to voyage around the world.

Ciao Everyone,
My Name is Rita & I am a new member , Im Italian & I live in Chicago but Im totally one of those people that should have been born and raised in Italy, I used to live there but came back here when I was 7ish & I would just like to say that for those people who dont have Families in Italy and have all there Nonno's & Nonna's here should totally not take advantage of that! Everytime I go to Italy everyone always has an oppinion , such as my friends there Nonno's and Nonna's live across the street for them & they dont see them for weeks or months , I on the otherhand have to fly 10,000 miles and pay $2,000 just to go see mine! I think that's so unfair! & Also I dislike those people that just because they moved from Italy to America, Canada anywheretalk bad about Italy when they get here when they say that they came to "The land of oppurtinty" Ma please!!!!! Wake up! There's good and Bad in every country and who ever wants to work in Italy works and in Canada or the USA you need a Diploma for any job! So ..............for those that are ignorant and narrow minded.....wake up

Looking for a job

Hello,

I am new here and I want to know if anyone has any ideas for a job I could find in italia. Unfortunately dual citizenship is not going to happen for me or at least they told me this because my grandfather became a us citizen before my fathers birth. So I will have to just go and try to get a visa and a job. Does anyone have any job suggestions that would give me a visa? I know these are hard to come by

As I'm Italian living here, I can suggest you a few useful websites to look for a job in Italy.

People here use a lot the websites (in Italian) of Infojobs.it and Monster.it, but also other websites of free ads, such as Bakeca.it, Vivastreet.alice.it, Kijiji.it, Lavoro.tiscali.it and so on, you can simply make a research, sometimes also choosing the region and the area.

If I find nice job ads, I can surely let you know, do you allow me to post them here?

Home-Cooked Meals by the Best Cooks in Italy

Aided by a University of Bologna professor, Egeria Di Nallo, the Home Food project allows guests to experience dinners in the homes of Italians who have been specially chosen to provide an authentic Italian experience. The traditional cooks are known as Cesarine, or "empress of the kitchen," and include both males and females.

Rental in Abruzzo

I have a small, newly constructed two bedroom house near Teramo in the Abruzzo Region. I visit twice/year for about three weeks each time. I would rather have someone in the house and like to cover some of the expenses so I rent it out from time to time when I am not there. The 2008 rent is only $500/week (I live in America and payment in dollars is fine for me). I have also rented it out by the month at about 75% of this price.
